Ethical principles of the City of Helsinki for recruitment from abroad

The ethical principles for recruitment from abroad guide the processes and practices of recruiting employees from abroad for the City of Helsinki. Their purpose is to ensure a transparent and fair recruitment process for the employee recruited from abroad, as well as to provide sufficient support for their work and settling in their new country.

Recruitment from abroad at the City of Helsinki is premised on economic and social sustainability. Helsinki treats all its employees equally and fairly, respecting the fundamental principles and rights at work of the International Labour Organisation, as well as human rights.

The ethical principles for recruitment from abroad are linked to the city’s ethical principles and the minimum obligations for procurement (Code of Conduct). The City of Helsinki actively monitors international recruitment trends and risks, constantly developing the related know-how.

Settling in Finland and the related support cover all the things that an employee moving to Finland from abroad will need immediately upon arrival, such as interactions with various authorities, housing issues and learning the language. Integration refers to a series of events taking place over time, as a result of which the person who has come to Finland feels that they are an equal part of society. This integration takes place in tandem with society.
