Communal housing

Communal housing might suit you if you do not yet need 24-hour care, but you are no longer able to live in your home with the help of home delivery services or the support of your loved ones.

Communal living means living in a senior centre in an accessible rental apartment with a room, toilet, washroom, and kitchen area.

In communal housing, you pay for housing and the services you need separately. You will be able to draw up a care and service plan together with the staff to meet your needs. Services may include, for example, meal services, services related to care and maintenance or medication.

As a community housing resident, you can also participate in the community activities of the senior centre, such as physical education and cultural activities. Furnishing your rental apartment with your own furniture and textiles.

Communal housing may be right for you if the support provided by home care is no longer enough for you to live safely in your home. If you think that communal housing might be a good fit for you, apply for a service needs assessment, for example, by contacting Senior Info.
