What can you experience on the northern platform of the Lammassaari duckboard trail?
Admire the views from the platform. Viewing is possible even from a low height, as one of the walls is made of glass.
Observe the island of Loppi with binoculars
If you have binoculars or a telescope, you can see the tops of the large alders at the northern side of Loppi, where a pair of white-tailed eagles typically sits. The pair of white-tailed eagles that nested on the island of Loppi in 2020 has nested in the outer sea in the Helsinki archipelago in recent years.
Listen to the concert of the reeds
The reed bunting chirps its simple song in the middle of the reeds from early spring to July. The sedge warbler arrives in May, and its sizzling, vibrating song can be heard day and night until midsummer. The scarlet rosefinch whistles prominently. The bearded tit is recognisable by its metallic sound, and it can sometimes be seen flying in small flocks over the reeds.
Observe life on the plank trail
In the wintertime, the great grey shrike often sits in a treetop, waiting for its prey. Harvest mice and common shrews live among the reeds, and they sometimes run on the duckboards when the water level is high. High water is an impressive sight on the plank trail. The duckboard trail floats when the water is 60 centimetres or more above the average. The plank trail is popular and carries an average of 400 people per day.
