Health examinations for pupils

Annual health examinations in school health care are part of preventive health services.

During these check-ups, we assess the overall well-being and health of children and young people and provide vaccinations in line with the national vaccination programme. The examinations also include individual health counselling.

In comprehensive health examinations conducted in grades 1, 5, and 8, students meet both the school nurse and a doctor. These assessments focus not only on the student's well-being, growth, development, and health, but also on the well-being of parents or guardians and the entire family.

Health examinations in grades 1–9

We carry out the health examinations according to the pupil’s grade level regardless of the class type.

The nurse and doctor carry out an extensive health examination. The nurse receives background information from the child health clinic, daycare centre and school as well as from the preliminary information form completed by the parents. We invite the parents to attend the health examination.

The nurse assesses the child’s health and discusses matters such as the child’s progress at school and the well-being of the whole family. The nurse examines the child’s growth and development by, for example, measuring weight and height and testing eyesight and hearing. The nurse also gives vaccinations according to the vaccination programme.

The doctor examines the pupil, discusses the family’s health habits and draws up a well-being and health plan for the pupil.
