Epidemiological operations

We manage epidemics of infectious diseases within the city of Helsinki and offer expert guidance and advice regarding infectious diseases.

We monitor the infectious disease situation and are responsible for the surveillance and preparedness for infectious diseases of general concern and controlled infectious diseases in Helsinki. We collaborate with HUS Group, other wellbeing services counties, and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.

The Epidemiological Operations Unit is also responsible for monitoring patients infected with, or exposed to, generally hazardous diseases under the supervision of a physician responsible for infectious diseases, as required by the Communicable Diseases Act.

Furthermore, the Epidemiological Operations Unit collaborates with the Urban Environment Division of the City of Helsinki in investigating food poisoning epidemics, and is responsible for monitoring and managing outbreaks of food poisoning and water-based epidemics.

For inquiries related to infectious diseases, the Epidemiological Operations Unit can be reached via telephone at +358 9 310 28570 on weekdays from 8.00-15.30.
