We do not write certificates or statements related to hobbies, competitions, student exchange years or travel. Certificates that are unrelated to treating illnesses and most statements are subject to a fee.
Please note that we treat patients at the health stations in the order of their medical priority. Writing a certificate is not an urgent matter, except for certificates relating to sudden illness. We only write certificates and statements in Finnish or Swedish.

Sickness absence certificate for sudden illnesses
Find out from your supervisor whether you can be absent from work by reporting it yourself or whether you need a certificate for your absence. Contact your occupational health services first. You should only contact the health station if you do not have occupational health care.
If you suddenly fall ill and need sick leave, contact the health station as soon as possible via chat or phone.
Please note that nurses and physiotherapists at health stations write sickness absence certificates for 1–7 days, based on their assessment. These certificates are free.
Health status statement for salmonella infection in people working in high-risk occupations
Under the Communicable Diseases Act, an employer is required to obtain a reliable statement from an employee that the employee is not infected with salmonella when they work in jobs where there is a high risk of spreading salmonella.
The statement is required at the beginning of any employment lasting at least one month and whenever there is reason to suspect that a worker may be a carrier of the Salmonella bacteria.
A health status statement refers to an interview conducted by a doctor or nurse at an occupational health clinic, health station or student health services.
A laboratory test is carried out if the employee is currently suffering from or has suffered from diarrhoea accompanied by fever (fever of at least 38⁰C) in the past month. A laboratory test is also performed if a family member has been diagnosed with salmonella. The need for a laboratory test is based on the employee’s self-reported symptoms of gastrointestinal illness.
Laboratory tests are not required from asymptomatic employees after travelling.

How to contact the health station
The fee is €56.70 for a medical certificate and €68.10 for a driver’s licence certificate. We do not charge fees for medical reports or certificates issued for treatment or rehabilitation.

Special dietary requirements
All daycare centres, schools, upper secondary schools and educational institutions in the City of Helsinki follow uniform practices for special diets at all meals in accordance with the national allergy programme.
For daycare and school-aged children, the child’s guardian completes a notice of special dietary needs for daycare or school meals. A doctor’s certificate or contacting the health station is not required.

Specialised healthcare professionals will issue a certificate of special dietary requirements and written instructions for those diagnosed with a severe allergy or as allergic to major allergens. A guardian’s notification to daycare centres or schools is sufficient for the provision of allergen-free diets in accordance with the special healthcare plans.
Only if the person has a severe and congenital lack of the lactase enzyme characterised by watery diarrhoea in the neonatal period. The certificate will be issued by specialised medical services.
In the case of lactose intolerance and mild (non-major) food allergies, the person should consume foods according to their tolerance, and there is no need for certificates from health professionals or laboratory tests.
