You may be eligible for financial support for the procurement of equipment needed in getting around, communication or other activities that you are not provided by healthcare as a rehabilitation assistive device.
Financial support can be granted, for example, for the purchase of a car or car accessories, household appliance or equipment for recreational activities. The amount of financial support is, as a rule, no more than half of reasonable procurement costs. The compensation for a car and its accessories can be more than that.
In some cases, you can also borrow a device or equipment. Borrowing is free of charge, but you must return the device to us when you no longer need it.
Granting procurement support is subject to a means test and you must demonstrate that:
- You need the device to be purchased due to your disability or illness. For example, you cannot apply for support for an electric razor as that is something that you may need in your daily life regardless of your disability or illness.
- You cannot get the device from healthcare as an aid to rehabilitation.
- The device will help you to manage daily activities independently.
- If you need support in purchasing a car or car accessories, you must demonstrate that your need is daily due to work, studies or transportation of a disabled child.
You can apply for support by filling in the disability service application form and sending it to a service point of Disability Work in your area of residence. You need a doctor's medical opinion and an opinion from a rehabilitation instructor or occupational therapist attached to your application. In some situations, we also need an assessment of the rehabilitative potential of the equipment from you.
