What is living in Majakka Housing Group like?
You will have your own apartment in Majakka. We also have a shared living room and dining area on the first floor, where the staff facilities are located as well. Our sauna facilities are located on the sixth floor. The basement floor features apartment-specific storage facilities and a gym, which we share with the residents of the adjacent senior centre.
In the shared facilities of Majakka Housing Group, we spend time by having meals together, doing household chores, playing games and interacting with fellow residents. Our shared facilities are fully accessible.
What is our everyday life like?
Majakka was born from the initiative of a few families with developmental disabilities living in East Helsinki. They wanted to pursue a project in which young people who already knew each other could move into a shared housing unit and everyone would receive the support and guidance they need.
The City provided a good setting for the project, led and drove the project and served as the developer.
Accordingly, our support and guidance are based on individuality and each residents’ needs.
At weekends and during public holidays, we organise shared activities in accordance with our residents’ wishes. We discuss current shared matters and plans at resident meetings on Sundays.
Majakka Housing Group is located in Herttoniemi by good transport connections and near services. You can conveniently take a bus to Herttoniemi and Itäkeskus right from our door. The services of Kalasatama are also a short metro trip away.
The housing group is located right next to Roihuvuori Cherry Park and Herttoniemi Library.
